FAQ

I’ve never had physiotherapy before, what will the consultation consist of?

The final portion will normally consist of education, a tailored home exercise programme and an appropriate treatment for the injury.

A 45 minute initial consultation will involve a 10-15 minute discussion about the symptoms of the condition and your medical history. Next, I will physically assess the area to test your flexibility, strength and function, and discuss the likely diagnosis.

What do I need to wear to the appointment?

I recommend that you wear loose and comfortable clothing to allow a range of motion, but please wear whatever you feel comfortable in. There is a chance that items of clothing will need to be removed for in-depth assessment but this is completely up to you!

So for example, it would be great if you could wear a pair of shorts for a knee assessment, or a vest top for a shoulder assessment.

Can I bring a chaperone?

Of course, you can bring a friend or family member to your appointment to help you feel more comfortable – they will also need to follow the Covid-19 precautions listed below.

I am also able to provide a female chaperone myself – free of charge.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the nature of the injury and your goal. If you want advice and a quick assessment, we can arrange a one-off session.

If you would like a course of acupuncture or rehabilitation following an injury we can book as many sessions as needed to reach your goal.

I have more than one injury, what do I do?

During the first session I can assess to see if the problems are linked or separate. If the injuries are unique to each other (eg. neck and ankle) we can discuss setting up a double appointment so we can focus our time equally on each area.

What if the treatment doesn’t help?

If injuries don’t respond to treatment and exercises then sometimes we may need to investigate this further. I can write a letter to provide to your local GP or physiotherapy service with recommendations on next steps, such as referrals or imaging.

Are there any Covid-19 precautions in place?

Safety is my top priority when working with you. I am fully vaccinated and can provide evidence of a negative lateral flow test on the day of appointment, and I will request a negative lateral flow test from you on the day as well.

The room will be ventilated and I will be wearing a mask during the appointment, and request that you do as well. I will also wear gloves during the physical assessment and all surfaces will be sanitised between appointments. If you are mask exempt then please let me know when booking.

Any chaperones attending will also need to follow these rules.
